Passport

For French, Swiss, Belgian and Canadian nationals, a passport is mandatory and must be valid for 6 months after your planned return date. We recommend carrying a copy of your passport and leaving one at home, as well as sending yourself a scanned copy of your passport by email. Upon arrival in the country, local authorities will issue you a "Tarjeta Unica Migratoria". It is essential to keep it throughout your stay as it is required when leaving the country.

Health

No vaccinations are mandatory. It is advisable to be up to date with the following vaccines: diphtheria, tetanus, polio, pertussis, hepatitis B. For children: measles-mumps-rubella (MMR). For the north, yellow fever vaccination is recommended. For Easter Island, yellow fever vaccination may be required if you are coming from an endemic region.

Money

The official currency is the Chilean peso. We recommend bringing with you: a bank card from which you can withdraw local currency at an ATM (€300 maximum per withdrawal), some cash that you can exchange at a currency exchange office (avoid airports and hotels). Currency exchange offices are closed on Saturdays and Sundays. In remote regions or at markets, bring a sufficient amount of cash.

Insurance

Travel insurance is not mandatory but strongly recommended. It will be very useful in case of baggage loss, trip cancellation or early return. If you pay by bank card, you may benefit from insurance (check with your bank). If you pay by international transfer, you can purchase insurance online. Free quotes are available online.

Time Difference

On the mainland, there is a 4-hour difference in winter and 6-hour difference in summer (French seasons). On Easter Island, there is a 6-hour difference in winter and 8-hour difference in summer.
